Where Are We? |

Our church is set back from the street, up a lane, screened by trees and foliage, and nestled in a garden that is bordered by the Hillside Natural Area. Built in 1951 it is one of the oldest churches in El Cerrito. We are proud to say that Hillside Church is a labor of love, built by the members themselves. The building incorporates spirituality and nature, with one wall entirely of glass looking westward toward the Bay. Spacious and natural, there are no pews so the sanctuary can be set up in many different configurations. After services we gather together around the large stone fireplace for coffee and hospitality. Our intimate garden is part of a larger natural area with walking trails and a viewpoint which we are developing as a contemplation spot. Nature surrounds and embraces us. It is not uncommon to look eastward into our garden on a Sunday morning and spy deer on the lawn drinking from the waterfall, or to look out the west facing windows and see hummingbirds gathering nectar in the garden or hawks soaring above. Peaceful and serene, this church is a prime venue for weddings, christenings and other sacred celebrations or simply as a quiet spot in which to meditate and be one with nature and our Lord.
